Jumping Spider Information and Care

Congratulations!

We’re so excited for you and thrilled that you chose Hello Mister Spider for your adoption!

Your new care kit

Water Bottle / Mister

Fill with filtered or distilled water and mist the enclosure every 2–3 days, adjusting for seasonal humidity.

While spiders get most of their fluids from their meals, occasional droplets on a side wall provide hydration and maintain proper humidity.

Use a fine mist sprayer only—spiders have delicate book lungs, and large droplets can be dangerous.

Paintbrush

Use gently to guide your spider in a desired direction. Only touch their legs; avoid the face and abdomen.

Tweezers

Use to handle food items like mealworms.

Never use tweezers on your spider.

Speaking of food!

Refer to this chart on WHEN to feed your spider!

Feeding based on abdomen size instead of time is super important!

Over feeding is a real thing, and can actually really hurt your new spider. If they are over full they can fall and hurt themselves.

Overfeeding can also cause abdomen separation.

Please always refer to the feeding chart!

What do Jumping Spiders eat?

We recommend both mealworms and lesser worms as feeders. Mealworms are widely available online, at reptile shops, and sometimes in larger pet stores. Choose worms similar in size to your spider—larger prey may cause injury.

Always supervise feedings to ensure your spider can safely eat and that the prey is consumed. Leftover worms can pupate into beetles if not removed. Store unused mealworms in the refrigerator to slow their growth.

Lighting

Spiders thrive with proper lighting. We recommend a simple LED light that can be switched on and off as needed. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can create a greenhouse effect and overheat the enclosure.

Since spiders rest on a day-night cycle similar to ours, using a timer set for 12 hours on and 12 hours off provides a consistent routine for your new companion.

Molting

If your spider is not yet mature, you may have the opportunity to witness a molt. A spider preparing to molt often builds a thicker hammock and stays inside it. During this time, lightly mist the enclosure once a day to maintain higher humidity, which supports the shedding process.

After molting, your spider may remain in its hammock until it feels ready to emerge. Once it comes out, it is safe to offer soft feeders such as lesser worms, spikes, or wax worms, as spiders are more delicate immediately after a molt.

Never remove the shed exoskeleton from the hammock yourself, as this can cause stress. Only remove it once your spider has discarded it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at hellomisterspider@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

All of our enclosures are manufactured by Tarantula Cribs, a trusted leader in the industry. Designed specifically for jumping spiders, these enclosures provide security, prevent escapes, and maintain humidity more effectively than mass-produced alternatives.

Every element inside is spider-safe, sealed, and mold-resistant, giving you peace of mind and your spider the perfect home.

We recommend using a wet qtip to clean up the poop spots, but being careful not to disturb any hammocks or web anchors (the little dots on the sides of the enclosure) and removing any carcasses from old feeders. We typically do this once a week.

We carefully wash every enclosure and all included items to ensure they’re completely safe for your spider. Since spiders are highly sensitive to scents, this step guarantees everything is fresh, clean, and ready for your new little bean.

Yes and Yes! Send me a message and let's dream up your perfect enclosure!

Or - if you want something modified send me a message and Ill see what I can do!

If I am offering blanks they will be listed in the shop selection of the website. Otherwise you can purchase blank enclosures from tarantulacribs.com and use HMS10 for a discount

I don’t sell individual pieces from my enclosures, since each one is designed as a complete set. I carefully wash and prepare all the materials, making sure everything is spider-safe, mold-resistant, and ready to use. From there, I spend a lot of time curating a design that feels balanced, unique, and true to the style of my work.

Because of that process, the enclosures I offer are meant to be purchased as finished habitats.
