YOU JUST ADOPTED A SPOOD! (WOO!)Now what?!

First of all- Congratulations on the newest addition to your family! And thanks for choosing Hello Mister Spider to adopt from!Let’s talk about your kit first.

Water Bottle / Mister - Fill this with filtered or purified water . Mist the inside of your enclosure every 2-3 days depending on time of year (winter is less humid). It could be more or less depending on humidity levels. Spiders get most of their fluids from their meals so this is mostly for humidity, but still aim for a wall so they can drink some droplets off the side if they are thirsty! It’s important to use a fine mist sprayer because spiders have book lungs, meaning they are on the bottom and bigger water droplets can actually cause them to drown!Paintbrush - This is to nudge your new friend in a direction and encourage them to go the way you’re wanting them to go! Only ever use the brush on their legs and avoid their face and abdomen!Tongs - These are so you don’t have to physically touch your new spood’s food. So use these to pick up mealworms and what not. But please don’t ever use them on your spood!

Speaking of food!

Refer to this chart on WHEN to feed your spider! Over feeding is a real thing, and can actually really hurt your new spider! If they are over full they can fall and hurt themselves. Overfeeding can also cause abdomen separation. Please always refer to the feeding chart!

What should you feed?

We recommend mealworms! You can get them from your local pet store. You want ones that are about the same length as your spiders body. And always monitor feeding because mealworms can bite and hurt your spider! If you’re offering food and your spider isn’t hungry- thats okay! Just take it back out of the enclosure and try again another day. But make sure you remove it otherwise it will eventually turn into a beetle and that can also harm your spider.NOTE: Always store mealworms in the fridge when you’re not feeding to slow down their growth and make them last longer!Other things you can feed your spider:Lesser worms - I’ve just started using these and my spiders love them! They are a great alternative to mealworms especially for younger ones and right after a molt when a spood is more soft and fragile. They have a high protein content and can’t hurt your spider at all like a mealworm can.Wax worms - These aren’t great to feed all the time, think of them as the cheeseburger of the spider world, but can be used as a treat or something softer after a molt.Blue bottle Spikes - or you can let them become flies and spiders LOVE hunting down flies. It’s also very fun to watch!Black solider fly larva - I personally have not tried them but a lot of people do use them.We highly recommend Spood Food aka the Fruit Fly Store for all your feeder needs! Tell them Hello Mister Spider sent you!
